Carlsen Defeated Praggnanandhaa In Tie-Breaks To Win The Chess World Cup Title 2023

Carlsen Defeated Praggnanandhaa

After three intense days and playing four games across two formats, Magnus Carlsen managed to be the winner of the FIDE World Cup 2023. This was a first in his career. He won the title after defeating Praggnanandhaa in the finals of the game. The tournament took place in the region of Baku, Azerbaijan.

It is notable to mention Pragg, as he turned 18 during the World Cup, was the youngest ever World Cup finalist ever.

India’s Raneshbabu Praggnanandhaa is a chess grandmaster of the country. He is a chess prodigy who came to be known as the international chess grandmaster at the young age of 10 (he was considered to be the youngest at the time of becoming so). In the year 2022, on 22nd February, at the young age of 16, he became the youngest player to defeat Magnus Carlsen (World Champion) in a rapid game at the Masters Airthings rapid tournament of chess.

The results of the FIDE World Cup 2023 also qualified Pragg for the Candidates 2024 tournament. It is going to be held in Canada to determine the challenger to the World Champion of China – Ding Liren.
