In an interview with ‘The Guardian’ that took place last Sunday, UN rapporteur of Human Rights and Poverty, Oliver De Schutter stated that, the levels of poverty in the region of UK has surpassed a great extent which is just not acceptable anymore and actively challenges the grounds of international law.
The poverty envoy of UN is set to visit the country of UK later this week, where they will urge a proposal to the government regarding increasing the welfare spending.
De Schutter emphasized greatly on the importance of obligations the UK has, under the international law to provide for social protections, which also includes providing people with an adequate level of living.
The situation presently states otherwise, as the welfare payments of the UK are lagging behind a great deal behind the rise of the average cost of living.
This criticism came forward as the Home Secretary of the UK faced much scrutiny over her proposals regarding restricting the usage of tents by the rough sleepers. She stated that many of the people practiced it as a preferred choice of lifestyle.
