ABA’s Proposed Free Expression For Law Schools Gains Traction

After following through with the various controversies that happened around the campus speech, and a request for investigation regarding the incident that happened in Stanford Law School – the ABA proposed a novel accreditation standard, which solely focuses on seeking guidance for the policies surrounding academic freedom. 

The American Bar Association (ABA) has made a proposal that would require all law schools to have written policies of free speech which would work in protecting the various exchange of ideas and at the same time prevent any form of disruptive practices.

The law schools will now have to develop their own free speech policies under this proposal, but at the same time, these policies would also have to rightfully protect the rights of the staff and the faculty. They would also have to be of such nature that they prevent any disruptive practices and activities from hindering this free expression. It is to be made clear that law schools do not allow the disruption of speakers, which is still prevalent in many law schools
